Wedding Day MadnessThe old traditions
of 'something old something new' and 'something borrowed' came from the old times
when nobody had money for some huge celebration. All the friends and neighbors pitched in to help and loaned things for the wedding. Today, I see insanity. People spending $20,000 just for a simple wedding. That's crazy. Especially when you see so many marriages biting the dust. It's not like the investment is some sort of insurance so why do we do it? Think about it. Can you imagine what you will think when a year later, you have some weird financial disaster? Would you then be remorseful about the money spent on a wedding? A wedding is a contract between two people. Imagine if we start celebrating a house sale, in the same manner. What a riot. What ever happened to wearing grandmother's wedding dress, in honor of grandmother? What happened to warm friendship on such a day? What happened to embracing family and just absorbing the meaning of the day? Would somebody please tell me what an ice sculpture has to do with marriage? Why do we pretend to be celebrating a new union by getting drunk? |
It's the wedding day that provides both families the first
real opportunity to come together, both sides helping out and feeling like a part
of this event. That's not what we do, though. The family paying for the wedding, rules the roost and lets it show that they are the boss. There you go. Perfect way to start off a new venture.
