I’m starting with something easy. Come on in, make your comments and see if everybody knows where this is. This photo put an end to some really stupid stuff, going on in the container division. I too this photo and dressed it up with wording and sent it straight to the safety dept. Here’s what happened. I,like a fool, signed on as a lease driver. I knew better but for some dumb reason I did it anyway. Long story. Continue reading Just One of my Many Stories I’ll have to fill you in on who or what I am, before I go on. I started driving in the 70’s. Actually, I started out pulling mobile homes and it just seems like it was a natural development, that I eventually went into long haul. I actually went to a school the company provided. Two weeks and I was sent out to pick up my own truck and get to work. One thing I always remembered was the head instructor, who happened to spend years driving semi, himself, said that once you’ve pulled mobile homes, you can drive anything. He was right. After managing something 14′ wide and 70′ long, I had no problems shifting over to semi. Continue reading Folks, I hate to add something of any serious nature but…. Hey! Back in the 70’s and even the 80’s it was dog eat dog, when it came to finding a decent job and hanging onto it. If a woman was alone and wouldn’t put out, she was out of a job.
That even happened to me while driving for Whitfield tank lines. Now there was a disaster story. I had a 3 year old daughter to take care of. I hocked my sewing machine to keep enough gas, to keep me going to work every day. What’s worse, they wouldn’t tell you if you had a load, you had to actually be there and check your box. So some days, I just wasted my gas. Continue reading The Tanker Job Nightmare Story Setting: Back in the late 70s Back then, I kept trying to get on with Yellow Freight. The first time I went in the guy told me their insurance wouldn’t cover a woman unless she had 6 months verifiable on the road. I couldn’t offer verified miles so I went back on the road and drove 6 months. I came back in and the guy told me the insurance had just recently made some changes and now it had to be a year. When it got up to 2 years, I told him to kiss my ass. I went out with a small outfit, out of Albuquerue. He only had 5 trucks and a friend of mine worked for him. That friend kept trying everything under the sun to get me to work for this guy so we could drive teams. Continue reading Christianson Trucking Nightmare Story OK,now this one will kill ya I happen to go with a friend, who hauled a flat bed with containerized furniture. He was having eye surgery and would take something like 6 months to heal, before he could go back to work. He was leased out to Cartright Van Lines and there was no way he could stop the truck, long enough for him to sit home for 6 months. Payments had to be made. So he made a deal with me. Go with him for about a month and train on the job, then take over his truck for that 6 months. I could keep all the proceeds in exchange for saving his truck for him. OK…cool deal.
