I used to marvel over the lives of my elders. They saw the first automobile,
the birth of movie cameras and television. Now I realize I have much more to tell about. The first color TV, the first remote control, landing on the moon, techno war. My generation witnessed the first flag burning, the beginnings of the end of our country (USA), the demise of family values. What used to be right is now wrong and what used to be wrong is now 'politically correct'. We have witnessed the advent of computers in the home, the all seeing eye in the sky (satellite),cell phones, shredding papers for safety,2 car garages, computerized sewing machines, computerized cars. We watched our vehicles turn from metal to plastic and jet planes ruining our skies. We've witnessed our forests suffering from carbon monoxide and killing the trees along the road. We have witnessed highways turning into 'super slabs'. Intersections turned into sky scrapers. Childrens chants became illegal. Children began killing each other and even their parents. Children became a ward of the state while the parents still tended to the daily care and feeding. Our country twisted and perverted the constitution of our country until now there really is taxation without representation and the courts lord over the church. We went from children standing up in the back seat to government authorized expensive containers. We went from individual decisions to traffic tickets if we do not strap on a belt. We went from a division between adults and children, to all being treated like children and then the country asked why the children no longer respect the adults. We went from children being taught responsibilty with things like fire arms, to family secrets the children can't wait to uncover and test for themselves. We no longer teach our children how to handle such things, we buy locks instead. My generation witnessed a woman with no elected power, whatsoever, turn our health system upside down until now we have to hire a lawyer to fully understandour own insurance policy's. We witnessed our children go from riding their bikes and climbing trees, to sitting with video games and growing fat. My generation witnessed the legal change in our schools, go from parent authority to government owned and operated. In this country, one could be quite envious of the previous generation, the one that got to witness the first automobile. Return to Index |
